About This Website

My name is Keith Knight. When I am writing fiction I am K.D.Knight. If you haven't read any of my work you are in the majority. I am obscure even in my own home.
Cut me open and across my heart it will say National Hunt. In my blood will be found the names of the great horses who have graced my vision with their exploits. To the detriment of my character, on my deathbed the memories that will sustain me as I pass from here to wherever there happens to be will be Red Rum winning his third National, Crisp so gallantly nearly denying Red Rum his first, Desert Orchid winning the Gold Cup, Sprinter Sacre winning his second 2-mile Champion Chase, Kauto Star winning the last of his Betfair Chases, Denman winning his first Hennessey and filling me with hope that I was witness to Arkle's successor. No human, I expect, will emerge from the  memory bank as I draw my last breath.
I have no qualifications to express my thoughts, my ideas, on this great sport other than my deep and abiding love of horses, of racing and the fine people who populate it.

I am the author of 'GOING TO THE LAST', a horse racing related collection of short stories that can be purchased at all respectable e-book sellers, and will soon be available as a print on demand paperback. It is priced at £1.99 and is worth every penny.

One of the subjects closest to my heart, as can be seen from an article on my Blog page, is that of horses names. Racing is a dignified sport and I believe horses should be given dignified names. Silly names appal me. Names that are hiding places for crudeness, as with Wear The Fox Hat, annoy me. When it comes to the naming of racehorses I have no sense of humour.
On this page, or in time on a dedicated page, I will at random suggest names that owners struggling to name a horse can use if they so wish.  A name cannot be subject to copyright or ownership and if my storehouse of names should become popular I will ask users of my service to donate £25 to a charity connected with the re-training of racehorses.
I do not make any guarantees that the names I come up with will be acceptable to the authorities, though I can assure you that I will not resort to the names of great and good horses of the past.

HIGHEST LEVEL? AL AASY, THE NEW LOUGHNANE, A VERY SORE SKELTON & SHE IS BACK WITH A WINNER.
It was said in today's Racing Post that in winning at Down Royal yesterday, Haiti Coulours was winning for the first time at the highest level. I would contend that yesterday's race may have been a Grade 1 steeplechase but it was not of the 'highest ...

I SIMPLY FORGOT, LOW SUN & JOCKEY REPAIRS.
I have to feed a neighbour's cat tonight and again on Sunday morning. To give me, and the cat, of course, the best chance of remembering this simple task, I will stick a note to the television, leave the door key next to the kettle and tie a knot in ...

P.J.A. MAD ABOUT IT, FORTHFACTOR FIRST FOR ME, LISTEN TO FARAGE & HOLLIE BACK WITH EIGHT!
There is nothing more pleasing in life than to be proved right, not that it happens too often in my case, so forgive me starting with a gloat. Not that the P.J.A. are happy; they are quite cross, though pleased that the B.H.A. have stepped in and qua...

REVELEY RETIRING, STATE MAN, TOO, HOLLY IS BACK, FORRISTAL AGREES WITH ME & THE E IN THE R.
One of the lesser mysteries in the world, at least to me, is when a jockey has to go abroad to prove to his fellow natives how good he or she is. Rachel King could barely get a ride in her home country, yet after relocating to Australia she is noted ...

THOSE WERE THE DAYS, MY FRIEND, BREEDERS CUP, WEST GOES NORTH & NON-TRIER, NO WAY.
Amongst the entries for the Coral (old Hennessey) Gold Cup are Grey Dawning, Haiti Couleurs and Caldwall Potter. If these three face the starter at Newbury, which I doubt, the Coral Gold Cup will finally look like the race when it was sponsored by th...

MY IDEA OF A PLAN FOR CONSTITUTION HILL, SEDGEFIELD IN DISGRACE & GRASS NEEDS TO BE CARED-FOR.
The Racing Post, no doubt to be helpful to Nicky Henderson, has published today all the races around the world that he could consider for Constitution Hill's next outing. Surprisingly, there are at least seven or eight to come under Nicky's considera...
